About this piece
Regency Rosewood Cabinet by A. Solomon – Circa 1825
A handsome Regency rosewood cabinet, circa 1825, displaying beautifully figured timber, elegant classical proportions and striking gilt decoration. The cabinet bears the maker's stamp of A. Solomon, 69 Great Queen Street, London.
The rectangular top features richly figured rosewood veneers with attractive grain patterns, warm colour and a polished finish, above a simple frieze and a pair of panelled cupboard doors.
The doors display beautifully figured rosewood with dramatic contrasting grain patterns, framed by moulded borders and flanked by elegant cylindrical columns. Each column is embellished with finely detailed gilt capitals and decorative gilt collars at the base, providing a particularly attractive contrast against the rich rosewood.
The cupboard doors open to reveal a practical interior fitted with a single shelf, providing useful storage space. The interior retains a contrasting dark finish.
The cabinet stands on distinctive gilt lion's paw feet to the front, with plain block supports to the rear, completing its elegant Regency design.
Of particular interest is the maker's stamp of A. Solomon, 69 Great Queen Street, providing an attractive historical connection to the London cabinetmaking trade.
A particularly decorative and versatile example of Regency furniture, combining richly figured rosewood, classical architectural detailing and distinctive gilt ornamentation. Its compact proportions make it ideal for use as a side cabinet, drinks cabinet or decorative storage piece in a drawing room, dining room or entrance hall.
Presented in good antique condition, with age-related wear and character consistent with its age and use.
