About this piece

A Fine Victorian Marquetry Inlaid Dressing Table by Edwards & Roberts
Item Code: S27-1088
Description
A superb and highly decorative late Victorian dressing table by the renowned London cabinetmakers Edwards & Roberts, dating to circa 1885. This impressive piece is constructed in rich mahogany and extensively embellished with finely executed marquetry inlay, featuring classical foliate scrolls, urns, and mythological winged motifs throughout.
The design incorporates a full-height central cheval mirror, flanked by matching pedestal chests fitted with graduated drawers and enclosed upper cupboards, each centred by striking marquetry panels. The whole is surmounted by an elegant shaped and crested pediment, inlaid en suite, demonstrating the firm’s characteristic refinement and balance of ornament.
The piece retains its original brass swan-neck handles and escutcheons, and is stamped Edwards & Roberts, confirming authorship. With its architectural presence, exceptional craftsmanship, and decorative appeal, this is a rare and highly desirable example of high-quality Victorian bedroom furniture by one of the period’s most respected makers.
